Freedom From Fireworks is a group of residents, living in many different neighborhoods of Santa Cruz County, along the coast (e.g., Seabright, Blacks Beach, Opal Cliffs) and farther inland (e.g., East Morrissey, Mid East Side, Live Oak). Residents are bone weary of the constant shocks, explosions and tremors of fireworks that they and their pets experience, not only on the 4th of July but throughout the year.
On July 4th, residents feel like they are trapped in a war zone, unable to breathe the air outside, while their pets are terrorized. Residents who can afford to do so are forced to buy expensive tranquilizers (which mostly do not work) for their pets - or see them suffer. Many veterans of the modern wars suffer greatly on the 4th. Wildlife species have no tranquilizers. Mission Freedom From Fireworks seeks to reduce and eventually eliminate the problems experienced by people, pets and wildlife which are caused by fireworks in all Santa Cruz County neighborhoods.
